Summary

In the past decade, the potential beneficial effects of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) on human health have been widely investigated and proven effective in weight management. Several studies have demonstrated that CLA can positively affect body mass and has a beneficial effect on lean muscle mass. PhD CLA contains the highest concentration of the two active CLA isomers, c9,t11 and t10,c12, that have been identified as being helpful in reducing body fat.

In non-obese and overweight people, CLA reduced body fat mass and body weight. It has been shown that CLA prevents fat from being deposited into the cells. It appears that CLA reduces the activity of lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that is needed for fat cells to take up fats from the bloodstream. The storage of fat is therefore reduced, leading to significant reductions in fat mass and increased lean muscle mass.

In humans, supplementation with CLA increased lean body mass when combined with exercise. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that overweight people in an anabolic state (i.e. gaining weight after a weight loss diet) preferentially gain lean mass, thus improving body composition. It has recently been demonstrated that long-term intake of CLA can also significantly increase lean body mass and improve weight loss in overweight subjects without any diet or exercise intervention.

Additionally, PhD CLA has also been shown to reduce the side effects from a low calorie diet, such as skin rashes, irritability, depression, and hair loss.

CLA works ive been taking it for about 3 weeks now whilst working out 3 times a week and look more lean an feel healthier. I am planning on carrying on with this supplement.. Definitely recommend it

Q. can taking this product on maximum dosage for a long period of time cause any side effects ??

The most promising science around CLA concerns its effect on weight management. Thirty-five intervention studies have been conducted using CLA in humans to investigate the effects of CLA on weight management. These studies, which vary widely in CLA dose and duration, show the most significant effect of CLA on weight management is on body composition, a reduction in total body fat and an increase in lean body mass. The effect of CLA on fat mass is modest and at the recommended dosage of 3.2g/day produces a statistically significant 90 g fat loss per week (ca. 1 lb in 5 weeks) as shown by a 2007 meta-analysis. Doses higher than the recommended 3.2g do not seem to have any additional effects on body fat reduction.

Q. i already take CLA from my PHD Diet Whey protein (2-4 scoops daily)...will taking this 3 times daily be any more benefical to my fat loss goal ...or is it not that usefull because i already take the protein shake version....??

Even though you are taking CLA from your shakes you are only taking in a small amount of CLA, around 1.5g if taking two full servings of diet way per day. You may experience some additional benefits supplementing with CLA 90ct also.

Q. I am 63kg, about 5ft 6" and normal figure with larger than normal stomach. I'm looking to get rid of this. Would it help taking CLA with weights workout routine (as opposed to cardio)? Or would it do more good with cardio? Does it make a difference?

Does CLA compare with cutting products such as Hydroxycut or Animal Cuts?

The number one thing is your diet. You should opt for high protein and most guys use protein shakes (but you can also use chicken breast, tuna and other lean meats). Also cut the sugars and starchy carbs.
The next best thing is a fat burner. For most people these work best but some people prefer CLA (especially those who get a bit jittery on fat burners). It is hard to say which is "better" because it depends upon the person.

Hydroxycut and Animal Cuts are amongst the two best fat burners.
