Ever see a volcano explode–the thundering, awe-inspiring surge of raw power that erupts from the deepest bowels of the earth? Maybe you know what we’re talking about. Maybe on some rare days, you were absolutely on and you felt like you could train all night. Raw power seemed to well up from deep inside you. Well, you want that kind of feeling all the time? Now you can, because you’ve got Lava from Universal Nutrition.
Without a doubt, the single most important “meal” comes immediately after an intense workout. You need carbs immediately, as glycogen is used up to fuel your weight training. With Lava, you’re not just getting any old carbs, but GlycoCarbs (our exclusive formulation of dextrose, glucose polymers, and maltodextrin). There’s no fructose, sucrose, or other inferior sugars. But a post-training shake needs more than just carbs.
A great post-training shake also needs quality protein. With Lava, you get 32g of pure protein in the form of ultrafiltrated whey protein along with 32g of carbs. Universal Nutrition's premium protein is rich in whey peptides, alpha lactalbumin, immunoglobulins, glycomacropeptides (GMPs), bovine serum albumin (BSA), lactoperoxidase, and lactoferrin. Protein is needed after exercise to kick start protein synthesis and rebuild damaged muscles. To this basic formula, we’ve added key vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, and phosphate co-factors such as chromium picolinate, vitamins C and E, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorous, to name a few. But what lies at the heart of Lava's real power is this: 5500mg of pure Creapure™ creatine monohydrate, 2500mg of L-glutamine, and over 1000mg of L-taurine. This potent trio makes Lava the undisputed king of all post-training shakes.
While creatine monohydrate has been clinically proven to boost the ergogenic and anabolic drives, L-glutamine and L-taurine can help your body recover after a tough workout. While Lava is a great post-training shake, it’s also an ideal creatine-booster. Most creatine boosters use sugar to increase insulin and drive creatine into muscles. While this strategy works, many athletes don’t need extra sugar, especially if they’re preparing for a show. Studies now prove that a combination of carbs and protein can work just as well to boost creatine. One such study (J Appl Physiol 2000 89:1165-1171) reported that taking 5g of creatine with a 1:1 ratio of carbs to protein could produce the same results as taking 5g with 96g of carbs alone. So if you want results that can be proven in a scientific lab, turn to Lava.
"Overall the nutritional value of this product is solid, the taste is a little off putting at first, but I was able to implement it into my diet. Bought 3-4 tubs at a time, but now my taste buds are completely rejecting it, the thought and smell of this makes me gag. Which is unfortunate as this is a good product, just shame about its strange flavour."

"I take 4 scoops after work out which cover my protein and carbs intake. Good product-taste is ok, mixes well. Only if they make it in a bigger tub."

"Nice blend to cover protein, carbs and creatine. Mixes well and is a solid all in one. Main downside is cost as at 2 doses per day a tub will only last you a week."

I have been using LAVA on its own for 3 years as an all in one post training shake and have had great results. I probably train 8 times a week, however 3-4 of these sessions are CARDIO only. I’m looking to change to a different supplement [USN Muscle fuel Anabolic] for a change and to try something different. I’m after maintain my lean muscle mass and don’t want to bulk up or get much bigger. The USN product has more of everything! compared to the LARVA do you think this will bulk me up as it seems to be aimed at hard gainers? or do you think it will do the same as the LARVA just with a bit more of a punch? I don’t take shakes on rest days only after the gym. Thanks for your help
Muscle fuel anabolic is an all in one lean gainer designed to help you build muscle mass and can be utilised anytime during the day whereas LAVA is a specific post workout product only to be used at that time which is better for recovery than the muscle fuel anabolic. The muscle fuel anabolic would be a good choice if you wanted more than one serving a day or wanted to use it during the day as well as post workout.
Qhow much liquid am I supposed to mix my 2.5 scoops of lava with?and do I use water or milk? regards James.
150 to 350 millilitres - depending how sweet you want it - less water makes it more sweet.
Qhow do i mix it with what and how much??
Directions for use are not actually specified on the product’s label – it is simply advised that a serving be taken post-training. I would suggest adding one serving (2.5 scoops; 83g) to enough liquid to mix to a drinkable consistency.
